When the news is locked in and the presses roll, there is no room for mechanical breakdowns. This is why GS units were run on tests 24 hours a day for a year before they went into the field. Critical features were lightweight aluminum construction (half the weight), and simplified installation, particularly in the field where assembly fixtures were not available. Additional benefits included resistance to shock loads, compact size, and ease of service.
